How to read

€1,221.00 a month, €17,094.00 a year

The Spain minimum is paid 14 times a year. The annual figure is the one that allows comparison with other countries.

Where it comes from

Real Decreto 126/2026, de 18 de febrero

Amount and number of payments published in that official act, linked below. The annual totals are our own calculations on those figures.

Careful

A gross figure, not take-home pay

The Spain minimum is gross: social contributions and tax reduce what is received. Collective agreements may set higher floors. Information only, not advice.

What to do

Always compare on the annual figure

Multiply the monthly amount by the number of payments before comparing countries: 14 payments in Spain against twelve in many others.

How much the Spain minimum wage comes to per year

The 2026 monthly minimum in Spain is €1,221.00, paid 14 times a year, which comes to €17,094.00 over the year. The amount and the number of payments come from Real Decreto 126/2026, de 18 de febrero; the multiplication is ours. The 14 payments include the two extra ones. The decree also publishes a daily rate of €40.70, used in day contracts and temporary work.

What the Spain minimum does not tell you

The minimum is a gross figure: what reaches the account depends on the social security contribution and the income tax withholding in your case, which this page does not compute. Collective agreements in many sectors set floors above the legal minimum, and the higher floor is the one that applies to those covered. The annual figure of €17,094.00 published in Real Decreto 126/2026, de 18 de febrero is the reference used in benefit calculations and legal thresholds. For part-time contracts the amount is proportional to the contracted hours.

The Spain minimum next to its neighbour

In 2026 the other minimum wage tracked here is €920.00 a month over 14 payments, or €12,880.00 a year. The annual gap between the two is €4,214.00 — our calculation on each country's published figures. Comparing minimum wages across borders only makes sense on the annual figure and with the cost of living in mind: tax, contributions, rent and transport differ sharply. The gross number on its own says little about purchasing power.

Where to check the Spain minimum wage and when it changes

The €1,221.00 figure comes from Real Decreto 126/2026, de 18 de febrero, and that act is what counts — not a press release and not this page. The revision is annual and usually published late in the previous year, which is why December and January see several figures in circulation at once: the announced one, the one under discussion and the one actually published.

Glossary

Statutory minimum wage

The pay floor set by law, which no contract may undercut. Each country sets it by the hour, by the day or by the month, and the number of annual payments differs from country to country.

Statutory minimum wage

Gross salary

The figure agreed in the contract, before any deduction. It is the number on the employment record and the starting point of every payroll calculation.

Gross salary

Net salary

What is left after the compulsory deductions. It stays an estimate until the deductions written into your own contract are added, such as health cover, commuting allowances, alimony and advances.

Net salary

Effective rate

How much the deduction represents of the whole salary, as a percentage. It is always lower than the top bracket rate, because the lower slices were charged at lower rates.

Effective rate

Contribution ceiling

The highest salary on which the employee pays social security. Above it the deduction stops growing in money terms, so the effective rate starts falling as the salary rises.

Contribution ceiling

Holiday and Christmas subsidies

In Portugal, two extra annual payments on top of the twelve monthly salaries, which is why people speak of fourteen months. The yearly figure for a Portuguese salary is therefore not simply twelve times the monthly one.
